      John S. Crowley, 84, of 56 Lothrop St., Beverly, for nearly half a century publisher of New England city directories and president of the Beverly Chamber of Commerce, died yesterday. A partner in Crowley & Lunt, he was active in business up to his death and had long been a civic leader in Beverly. He was a past president of the Beverly Rotary Club, a past president and charter member of the Beverly Men's Singing Club, a director of the Beverly YMCA and a member of the Essex County Board of Trade. He was also a member of Budleigh Lodge, A.F.&A.M. Her leaves two brothers, M. Jerome and Daniel E., both of Beverly. Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the First Church in Salem with burial in Harmony Grove cemetery, Salem.
