On June 23, 2008, Richard (Dick) Burroughs Rose of Mound House passed away. Dick was born in Los Angeles, Calif. on August 14, 1925 to Dr. and Mrs. Richard B. Rose. Dick was married to the late Vondel H. Rose for 40 years.
Dick was a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force with an aeronautical rating of “Master Navigator”. Dick was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War; he received the Distinguished Flying Cross along with six Air Medals, five Battle Stars in WWII and five Battle Stars in Korea.
Dick worked for 35 years with Pacific Telephone. He was a District Commercial Manager; his last assignment was as a member of Pacific Telephone’s President’s staff in San Francisco.
Dick loved to fish for trout at Glacier Lodge in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, always trying to catch the “first, the most and the biggest”; he was an ever faithful supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Vondel and his brother, Russell H. Rose.
He is survived by daughters, Robin Michele Howard of Alturas, Calif. and Vallea Denise Rose of Loyalton, Calif.; granddaughter, Haley Rose Howard of Alturas, Calif., sister-in law, Patricia Rose of South Pasadena, Calif., niece, Melinda Alvarado of Arroyo Grande, Calif. and two nephews, Dr. Russell Rose of Pasadena, Calif. and Greg Rose of Arroyo Grande, Calif.
Dick was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a fabulous friend to many; his family and friends will sorely miss him. A military graveside service will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 30 at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City where Dick will be laid to rest next to the love of his life, Vondel. Family encourages those who knew Dick to share remembrances at the graveside service.
