Notes - John Larid died at his residence on Clinton street, last Thursday night, at 11 o'clock. He was the youngest son of Alexander Laird and was born March 14, 1835 in Hempfield township, this county. In 1856 he went to Kansas, and thence to Iowa and Illinois. After a brief reidence in these Western States he returned home and soon after was united in marriage to Miss Emeline Melvin, of West Salem, and they lived in the township several years, removing from there to Greene townshop and thence to Greenville last fall. Several years ago he united with the Baptist Church in Jamestown, of which he remained an honored member until his death. He has been a great sufferer for years from cancer of the eye, and finally died of cancer of the stomach. He was glad to be released from his suffering and died happy in the hope of a better life. His funeral was held at his late residence, Sunday, at 2 p.m., Rev. J.T. Davis preaching the sermon. There was a vast assemblage of his friends present, who tearfully followed his body to its last resting place and who extended their tenderest sympathy to his bereaved family. He leaves a widow, two sons and one daughter, who mourn the loss of a devoted and loving husband and father.
