| 201 | Exerpt from "The Elmira NY Morning Telegraph" (fultonhistory.com) DR. ROBINSON DEAD POPULAR YOUNG PHYSICIAN OPERATED UPON FOR APPENDICITIS, DIED OF TETANUS. Dr. John A. Roberson, one the coroners for Chemung county, died at the Arnot-Ogden hospital Friday morning. The direct cause of death was locked-jaw. About ten days ago while calling upon patients, Dr. Robinson was seized with a severe pain and was transferred from the house of a patient to the hospital. His case was diagnosed as appendicitis. He consented the an operation, which was performed by Dr. Baker and others. The operation was said to be a success .the patient rallying nicely. The nurse called especially to attend the doctor left early in the week, as he seemed will on the road to recovery. However, a day or two later symptoms of tetanus developed, and the nurse was recalled. The remains were taken to the family residence, 215 West Second street. | Robinson, John Alden (I9621)

| 204 | FARRAR, ROY MONTGOMERY (1870-1943). Roy Montgomery Farrar, banker and civic leader, son of John H. and Sarah (Rose) Farrar, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 16, 1870. After attending public schools in St. Louis he moved to Houston, Texas, in 1885, to Dallas in 1888, and back to Houston in 1896. He was connected with many lumber companies in Houston, including the South Texas Lumber Company, which he established with Jesse H. Jonesqv in 1902, and the Farrar Lumber Company, which he established in 1912. Farrar was president of the National Bank of Commerce of Houston from 1915 to 1921 and became the president of the Union National Bank in 1924. He was a member of the Houston Port Commission from 1914 to 1925, president of the Houston Chamber of Commerce in 1916-17 and from 1925 to 1926, and chairman of the Houston Housing Authority. He married Margaret Campbell on April 30, 1906; they had three children. Farrar died on August 17, 1943. He was reared by his grandmother Martha and his stepmother Harriet (Miller) Biddy whom his father James Monroe Biddy married Feb. 15, 1867. His father moved to New Mexico in 1883 but George decided to stay in Texas and moved to Lampass Co. in the mid-1880's. He worked on local ranches, broke horses and eventually worked for a one-armed Civil War veteran, Eleck Fowler. Mr Fowler was a wagoner who hauled freight, mainly in Lampass and Burnett Counties. He was also the uncle of Mary Elizabeth Hester, the girl George met and married. George grew up in the saddle and was well known as a horse breaker. However; One day the old frontier saying, "There's never a horse that can't be rode, and there's never a man that can't be throwed" caught up with him. He was thrown from a horse and seriously injured. The Fowler's took him in and nursed him back to health.One of his care providers was Mary Hester. | 218 | form "Tales, Legends, Myths & Notable Citizen of Paw Paw, Michigan" by Robert R Hindenach Romanzo Mortimer Buck of Paw Paw, Michigan was a member of the Michigan 4th Cavalry and took part in a bizarre capture on the last day of the Civil War, May 10, 1865. R. Mortimer as he liked to be called, enlisted at Paw Paw on August 6, 1862, joining the 4th Cavalry. This regiment fought in many of the bloodiest campaigns of the war, including the battle of Chickamauga. In January of 1865 Buck was promoted to Captain of Company L of his regiment. Lieutenant Colonel D. Pritchard of Allegan was the commander of the unit. In May of that year, near Irwinsville, Georgia the regiment encountered a group of men and women headed south at great speed. As they approached the party, one woman broke away and took flight. She was captured moments later. To the astonishment of all, this ?lady? turned out to be Confederate President Jefferson Davis, attempting to flee in some of his wife?s clothing. In northern newspapers it was later reported that Davis had been wearing a long, woman?s wig, sun bonnet and a hoop skirt, mainly in an attempt to ridicule the deposed head of state, but it was merely his wife?s overcoat and shawl. Buck was discharged from the service on July 1st at Nashville and returned to Paw Paw. For a few years he was considered somewhat of a local celebrity known as the captor of Jefferson Davis. However regardless of how much or little he had to do with the incident, evidently his fame waned as the years went by. When Colonel Pritchard wrote his account of the incident he singled out seven members of his command for special mention and Buck was not among them. Pritchard himself was given the monetary award that had been set aside for the capture of Davis. R. Mortimer Buck spent the rest of his life in Paw Paw, dying on December 9, 1902. His death announcement in The True-Northerner gave no mention of his military achievements, and his gravestone in Prospect Hill Cemetery is also devoid of any mention of the incident. An attempt to locate any area descendant of Buck has proved fruitless so we may never know just how much he had to do with the apprehension of the head of the Confederacy. ... | Buck, Romanzo Mortimer (I11212)

In 1827 they started on what was in those times a long journey, by wagon, to Troy, N. Y., where they took canal passage. They settled first in Penfield, and four years later removed to Perinton by ox team. Their happy married life covered a period of sixty-nine years, broken by the death of Mr. Perkins in 1892, at the age of ninety-two.
