  Notes	from "The Lockport Daily Journal", 6 Sep 1886 (fultonhistory.com) Our esteemed friend and townsman, Hon. John W. LaBar, celebrated his seventy-ninth birthday yesterday, Sept, 5, at his residence just east of the city. There were present - Mr. John W. LaBar and family of Royalton, Mr. Harry Cudaback, wife and daughter of Porter, Mr. George Sprague, wife and daughter of Albion, Mr. C.W. LaBar and wife of Lockport, and Mrs. Ira Baker and son of Cambria. All of his family were represented expect Mrs. J.P. Robens and family of Fort Scott, Kansas, whose absence was regretted by all present. The event was on to be pleasantly remembered by all who partook of the festivities of the occasion, and forms a bright spot in the decline of a long and useful life. ... from "The Lockport Daily Journal", 6 Sep 1887 (fultonhistory.com) Hon. John W. Labar of Chestnut Ridge, was 80 years of age yesterday. A pleasant family re-union celebrated the event at the homestead. Amoug those present were Mr. Labar's children, Mr. John W. Labar, Jr., Royalton; Mrs. Rubens, Kansas; Mrs Sprague, Albion; Mrs. Cuddeback, Youngstown their families; also invited friends. The occasion was a most joyous one and a proper tribute to the head of the family and a respected citizen.

  from History of Niagara county, by NY Sanford & Co, Hon J. W. Labar, though American born, is of French descent, his father having been a commissary in the army of the Marquis de La Fayette, and having come with that distinguished general to America during the struggle for independence. Mr Labar was born September 5th, 1807, in the town of Northampton, Montgomery county, N. Y. He removed to Orleans county in 1834, and from there, in 1836, to Royalton, Niagara county, and in 1860 he came from Royalton to the town of Lockport, where he has long been engaged as a farmer and fruit-grower. Mr. Labar is a well known and influential citizen and business man, and the confidence of the people in his ability and integrity was manifested by his election from this district as a member of the State Legislature for the years 1857 and 1858. He was married July 14th, 1832, to Miss Almira Palmer, of Northumberland, Saratoga county, N. Y. from The Medina Daily Journal, 3 Jan 1906 (fultonhistory.com) Hon. John W. LaBar, former assemblyman, and a grand-son of one of General Lafayette's comrads who came to the United States to assist the colonies in the Revolution died Sunday at his home in the Town of Royalton, in the 99th year of his age.
