Mary Emma Richards, 70, for many years an arts and crafts instructor at San Jose High School, died Friday in a San Jose hospital after a brief illness. Miss Richards, a native of Virginia City, Nevada, was the daughter of pioneer parents. Her father, the late Jenkins Richards was inventor of a swivel used on the nozzle of hydraulic mining devices, and her grandfather, Thomas Barrows, was an early-day miner in the West. A resident of San Jose, Miss Richards has traveled extensively since her retirement from the teaching profession. She was a graduate of San Jose Normal and of Columbia University. She is survived by the following cousins in Santa Clara County: Preston and Newton Thomas, Madrone, Mrs. Clara Brunts, Mrs. Claribell Bengiven, and Mrs. Estelle MacDonald San Jose, and Mrs. Mary E Graham, Palo Also. Several other cousins also survive. Funeral services will be conducted today at 1: 30 p.m. from the Chapel of Amos O Williams Co. Interment, Oak Hill Cemetery.

RICHARDS - In Jose Jose, Calif. June 20, 1947, Mary Emma Richards cousin of Mrs. Estelle MacDonald of San Jose, Mrs. Mary E. Graham of Palo Alto, Mrs. Evelyn Lazaras of San Francisco, Jack Thomas and Herbert Carter of Oakland, Jack Hough of Vallejo, Richard Hough of Port Chicago, Calif., Mrs. Claribell Bengiveno of San Jose and Mrs. Victorine Wallsfith of Salinas, a native of Nevada, aged 70 years, 17 days. Friends are invited to attend the funeral today, Monday, June 23, 1947 at 1:30 o'clock p.m. form the Chapel of Amos O Williams Co. East Santa Clara Street at Eighth, Interment. Oak Hill Cemetery.
