  from "O'dell House Museum" (virtualmuseaum.ca) Charlotte Perkins was born in Annapolis Royal in 1878 and from a long-standing Annapolis Royal family. Her family operated the Queen Hotel downtown from 1873 and then moved to take over the Hillsdale House in 1895. She founded the annual flower show in 1924 which continues to this day and took great pride in organizing the annual "greening" (decorating) of St. Lukes Anglican Church for Christmas. She was a charter member of the local chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire and is seen here cutting the 30th anniversary cake at the Community Centre on the 27th of November, 1947. She never married, being a resolute spinster, and living her later years with her sister, Bessie O'Dell. She died in 1964 in Annapolis Royal. Charlotte Perkins was a charter member of the Historical Association of Annapolis Royal, often making presentations at their meetings. At their quarterly on the 17th of September, 1951, Charlotte Perkins presented "The Old Pictures of Annapolis Royal". In thanking her the President of the Historical Association that evening paid tribute to her delightful radio voice, pleasing humour and wonderful knowledge of old Annapolis Royal, which you will also enjoy. Her script and glass slides were retained by the HAAR and a sound recording of the event was made by Allan Hicks of Bridgetown. All this material is now held at the Archives of the Annapolis Heritage Society and has been used for this virtual strolling through the centuries of Annapolis Royal. from "The Annapolis Spectator", 22 Sep 1964 (Annapolis Heritage Society) Miss Charlotte Isabelle Perkins, 86, one of Annapolis Royal's eldest residents, died Friday evening at the Maxner Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the last 3 years. Born in Annapolis Royal, she was the daughter of Cyrus Alexander Perkins and Emma Jane (Turner) Perkins. She was a great great granddaughter of Reverend Cyrus Peck Perkins, chaplain to the forces of His Majesty, George III, and rector of St Luke's Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, from 1808 to 1817. Miss Perkins was educated at Annapolis Royal Academy, St Andrew's School, received her matriculation from McGill University, and attended art school in Boston. She was a member of St Luke's Anglican Church, where she was a worker, Sunday School teacher, life member of the WA and leader of the JA's. In addition, she was a charter member of the Fort Anne Chapter, IODE, and a charter member of the Historical Association of Annapolis Royal, which honoured her on her 80th birthday with an illuminated scroll. Miss Perkins wrote numerous historical papers and brochures, and is known for her book, ?The Romance of Old Annapolis Royal?. She leaves a brother, William R Perkins, proprietor of Hillside (sic) House, Annapolis Royal. Funeral was Monday from St Luke's Anglican Church, Reverend HC Quartermain officiating, with interment in the family lot in Woodlawn Cemetery.
