      Charles R Volz, a painter at the L&N RR, widower, born 22 Sep 1857 in Louisville, KY to Charles Volz of Germany, mother unknown, died 21 May 1924 in Louisville, KY of Intraabdominal carcinoma. Burial on 22 May 1924 in Cave Hill Cemetery. Informant Mrs. E.E. Sullivan.

      Across the street was Charles Volz' grocery. He was a very nice man, but he did not do as well as Mr. Steinmetz, namely because he was a Republican and the neighborhood by far was Democratic. He also had Republican speakings with a platform in his back yard which faced the street. Mr. Volz sold his grocery finally to a Mr. Kirk with Kamber dairy store in rear. Motto: When in business be neutral and independent.

      Charles R. Volz, 67 years old, died at 9:30 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.E. Sullivan, 686 South Forty-third Street. Besides Mrs. Sullivan, he is survived by five other daughters, Mrs. Henry Kroeger, Mrs. Andrew Cozine, Mrs. Karl Lichberg and Miss Aleen Volz, and a son, Charles S. Volz. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the residence. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.
