My grandfather [William Baker] learned the mason's trade. He became a large contractor. He had the contract of the dome to the old capitol in Washington, D. C. The picture of him, shown in this work, was from a painting while on that contract. He built Middlebury College. At one time he was considered a wealthy man, but his generous nature ruined him. He built the large glass works at Salsbury, and never received any pay for it. He signed notes for supposed friends and had so much to pay that he was obliged to sell his property and move to Charlotte, where he operated the old hotel shown in this book.... He died from taking a large dose of saltpeter in the place of salts as prescribed by his doctor....That of the old hotel at Charlotte, Vermont, was taken by the writer the present year. It was here that grandfather Baker died in 1823. Here grandmother kept the place until she married Mr. Raxford. It was on the main stageroad from Boston to Montreal. All stages stopped here. It is now occupied as a tenement house, three families living in it at the time I took the picture

On Saturday evening, the second of July, at Alstead, in this vacinity, Joel Baker, a youth of eighteen, died; not in the course of nature, but by his own hand. Enamoured of a young woman in the vicinity, he addressed, and was rejected by her. Desperate at the disappointment of the wishes of a heart, unfortunately too susceptible, he communicated to the object of his affections, and to a few of his companions, his intention to abridge a life, no longer gladsome. Their unbelief gave him an opportunity to execute the work of death. He loaded a musket - and perished prematurely.

KEENE [N.H.] July 12, On the 2d inst. JOEL BAKER, an apprentice Boy to Lieut. E. Kingsbery in the Paper Mill, Alstead, put a period to his life, by discharging a musket, the contents of which entered the vital part of this body and lodged there. It appears, by the conversion between him and a young man who worked in the mill, that he was fearful who might happen, to him, as the said young man was going to a neighbor's after their day's work was done, he (Baker) enquired how long he should be gone, and wished him to call the mill as he returned home. The young man, not thinking of any such thing taking place, returned in about half an hour, and stopped a few rods from the mill, talking with a person, when they saw Baker come to the door, and they advancing to about three or four rods distance from the mill, they saw hem the second time come to the door. and return back again : and at the same instant heard the report of the gun. They ran to the door, and seeing him lie there in such a condition, they immediately alarmed the workmen, and took him up and carried him to Mr. Kingsbery's house, where he, in a few moments expired, not stirring hand or foot, by uttering a few bitter groans. The next day a Coroner call a jury inquest, who sat upon the body, and brought in their verdict - SELF MURDER. On Monday, his funeral was attended by a vast concourse of people. He carried the gun with which he did the execution, to the mill in the morning, and told the workmen that he was going a gunning after he had done his days work; and there was no perceivable alteration in this behavior during the day. He was 17 years and 8 months old, and had worked in the mill about three years and had behaved exceedingly well, and no one had the least mistrust of this intention.

Hosea Swett Baker was less than twenty years old when he came to Haverhill, about 1817. He was born in 1797 (?) and is said to have descended on his mother's side from Capt. John Lovewell, the famous Indian warrior. He came on his mother's death to live with an uncle in Piermont. He earned money to obtain an education at the Academy and pursued teaching for several years in Rumney and Haverhill. He was always a busy man and said it was better to work for his board than to go idle. Afterwards he engaged in the lumber business on the Oliverian. He moved to the Corner in 1825, engaged in the meat business, and was with Blaisdell & Co. in general merchandise trade. The succeeding thirty years were spent in farming at East Haverhill on what is known as the Baker farm. No man was better known in town than himself, and was noted for his line of conversation and anecdote. Mr. Baker held many positions of trust and honor. He was deputy sheriff, captain of militia, postmaster, selectman, representative, trustee Haverhill Academy and for more than forty years a justice of the peace, performing marriage ceremonies without number. He was also in requisition in the settlement of estates. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity, a Methodist, and was a member of the Republican party. He married Fanny Huntington of Hanover. He died May 20, 1885, at the age of 88 years, and she died Apr. 16, 1874, at the age of 72.

Hosea Swett Baker was born in Stoddard NH June 1, 1797, and died in East Haverhill May 20, 1885, aged eighty-five years, lacking eleven days. He was the son of Timothy and Catharine (Healy) Baker, two brothers and two sisters being older than himself. His mother died in August 1798, aged 34 years, leaving him an infant; and his father, marrying again and migrating to Western New York, there died in Pembroke December 16, 1823, aged sixty-eight years. Hosea Baker was descended from John Baker, freeman, of Charleston, Mass., 1634, through Dea. Joseph of the fourth generation, who married Hannah Lovewell, only daughter of Capt. John Lovewell, the celebrated Indian warrior, and settled in Pembroke NH. He married in 1821 Fanny Huntington, daughter of Hezekiah and Esther (Slade) Huntington, who was born in Haverhill November 15, 1801, and died in Haverhill, of apoplexy, April 16, 1874, aged seventy-two years and five months. Her family was of Connecticut origin. Of their six children, all born in Haverhill, the three oldest are deceased: Royal Huntington (Baker) born August 7, 1812 was a farmer in East Haverhill, and died August 22, 1871, aged forty-nine years, leaving two children, Martha M. and Solon H. Peyton Randolph, born September 2, 1826, graduated at Dartmouth College in 1848, was a physician in Maine, and died May 16, 1873, aged forty-seven years and eight months, leaving one son, Oliver Randolph, who is a clothing merchant in Bradford Vt. Solon Healy, born June 23, 1827, died September 19, 1828. Solon Healy born August 3, 1829 was a farmer with his father in East Haverhill, where he is still residing. Fanny Maria, born August 26, 1831, married a Congregational clergyman of Sanbornton NH in 1865, and has three daughters--one son and one daughter deceased. Oliver Harrison, born April 27, 1834 is a jeweler in Topeka, Kansas and has one son, John Huntington. During the most of his long life, Hosea S. Baker was intimately connected with Grafton county, and especially with the town of Haverhill. He was brought, soon after the death of his mother, to his uncle's in Piermont, by whom he was brought up, though "buying his time" before he was twenty-one. He then earned money to attend school in the newly established academy at Haverhill Corner, soon fitting himself to teach school, and followed that vocation for several winters at Haverhill and lastly, for a whole year continuously in the town of Rumney. Meanwhile, in 1820, he had made a long journey on foot to visit his father in Western New York, traveling upwards of 1,100 miles. After marriage he went into the lumber business, on the Oliverian brook, rafting his products down the river to Hartford, Conn. Taking up his abode at the Corner in 1825, he followed the meat business, the shoe and leather trade, and general merchandise with Bruce, Blaisdell & Co., for twenty years. In 1851 he bought a valuable farm, the old Crouch stand at East Haverhill, which with his sons, he carried on and improved until 1880. He then took up his final residence with his son Solon, at the village of East Haverhill, and there continued with an old age of remarkable vigor, geniality, and usefullness, until he was prostrated by an accident, and after three months of intense suffering, endured with a spirit of calm resignation and Christian hope, he expired as stated above. Thus, for nearly sixty seven years, Mr. Baker lived in Haverhill and always enjoyed the respect and confidence of his fellow townsmen. He was elected to almost every office in the gift of the town, and served in some of them for many years. He represented the town in the legislature one year, 1837, the opposite party coming into power the next year; was selectman for two terms, and voted in Haverhill at seventeen presidential elections, consecutively, beginning with the second term of James Monroe in 1820. He helped organized one of the earliest Sunday-schools in Haverhill in 1825, and was afterwards its superintendent, and was also one of the trustees of Haverhill academy, and secretary and treasurer of the Methodist Episcopal society at Haverhill Corner. He joined the lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in 1812, was frequently Master of the lodge, and was also a member of the Mount Lebanon Royal Arch Chapter, of Bradford VT. He was appointed deputy sheriff by Amos A. Brewster; was a captain in the state militia, postmaster for a time in East Haverhill, and a justice of the peace for the last forty-five years of his life. In this latter capacity, besides other duties, he solemnized numerous marriages and settled many estates in Haverhill and adjoining towns. He also conducted scores of funerals. His generosity and integrity in all these transactions were never questions, while in the varied relations of private life his kindness of heart and true Christian character shone conspicuously. Amid the busiest scenes, he was ever ready to extend his aid and sympathy to the sick and suffering. Being a devoted student of the Bible from his youth, Mr. Baker was remarkably familiar with its contents and served as the highly prized instructor of a Bible class in Sabbath-school of the East Haverhill Methodist church, until the last months of his life, with which church he also united by the ordinance of Baptism.

Amoung the settlers of 1836 was Timothy Baker, who had been a soldier in the United States army, and who claimed about 600 acres, which included the Geo. W. Minard farm and parts of others near by. Selling this claim to Minard, he took land, now occupied by L.C.F. Lotz, east of the city, and engaged in the nursery and fruit business. He died in 1867.

George C. Baker, Sr., was born at Houma, in Terrebonne Parish, of Louisiana, August 5, 1839, a son of Andrus and Amanda (Hurnden) Baker. His father was born in the New England state of Vermont, and his mother in Virginia, and they were married in Louisiana The father died when his son George was six years old and up to his death had been a sugar planter in Louisiana, a man of means, energetic and forceful, and the owner of broad acres and many slaves. The mother who lost her parents in Louisiana during the great yellow fever epidemic, was adopted and reared in the family of Joseph Samples, a sugar planter. Mr. Baker's paternal grandmother lived to be nearly one hundred years old. There were three children in the family, and the others are Alice of St. Louis, and W. C. Baker, who died in Calvert, Texas, of yellow fever.

Leonard F. Baker, a resident of Rock Island county for sixty-two years and a merchant of Hampton for more than a half-century, died yesterday in Chicago at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Louis Wells. Death was a result of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered last Sunday. Mr. Baker retired form business about four years ago and since that time had been making his home with his children. Last Summer he had a slight paralytic stroke, while at the home of his son, S.S. Baker of Reynods. He recovered sufficiently from this to be removed to the home of his daughter in Chicago.
Something of His Life.
Lenard F. Baker was born in Worcester county, Mass., Dec. 5, 1824. He was a son of Captain Silas and Abagail (Hager) Baker, both natives of Massachusetts, his family being of English origin. His education was secured in the common schools and in the Massachusetts academy, where he remained a student for three years. He then engaged in teaching school for several years, and in 1850 came west to this county with the late M.W. Wright, for whom he worked as clerk in a general store in Hampton, for three years. In 1853 he went into partnership with the late H.F. Thomas and built a fine stock of goods. The business continued and prospered until the civil war, when Mr. Baker sold out. In 1852 he was elected justice of the peace of Hampton township and served in that office for thirty years. In 1865 he was elected to the board of supervisors and served for one term. For nearly seventeen years he served as postmaster. For a time he was in partnership, in merchandising, with the late Henry Clark. He continued in active business until 1893 and after that time the business was conducted under the name of L.F. Baker & Sons, S.S. and H.G. Baker being the active members of the firm.
Married in 1851
Mr. Baker was united in marriage Sept. 7, 1851, to Milla W. Sawyer, who was also a native of Massachusetts, and a member of one of its oldest families. His wife died in May, 1887. The surviving children are Mrs. John Louis Wells of Chicago, Howard Grant Baker of Rock Island, and Silas Sawyer Baker, a merchant of Reynolds, this county. Tow children died in infancy and Marion E. died in 1896. Mr. Baker was a whig before the republican party was formed, and then became an ardent republican and so remained until the time of his death. He was a good citizen, a staunch supporter of the Congregational church of which his late wife was an active and devoted member. Mr. Baker couldn't knowingly do wrong. That was the reputation he had among those who knew him best. His ideals were high and he lived up to them. He fought for what he believed to be right, but his fighting left no sting, because of his charity for the views and the rights of others. He took unto himself only that which he was willing to concede to others.

SUDDEN DEATH AT MONT VERNON. Daniel R. Baker, a man well known at Mount Vernon, died very suddenly on Friday afternoon last. During the forenoon he visited Milford, and at noon assisted at the Bellevue House in serving dinner. This over, he complained of not feeling well, and went home and laid down. He grew worse, and a messenger was sent to Milford for a physician, but he hardly lived until the physician arrived, who pronounced it an apoplectic fit. Mr. Baker was for many years and trade in Mount Vernon, associated with his father, D.W. Baker, end with R. Beard and Clark Campbell. He was for several years postmaster, and was treasurer of the town at the time of his death, a position he has held for a series of years. He leaves the wife but no children. His age was about 51.

THE LOWELL MURDER - It appears that the woman who killed Charles Ricker, at Lowell, last week, is none other then Lucy Ann Mink, the same who was arrested and tried for killing Dr. Baker, of Warren, Maine, formerly of this place, whom the jury failed to convict, but of whose guilt there was little doubt in the minds of the public. The murderess came to Lowell some eight months since, assuming the name of Lula A. Martin, and was employed at the boarding house of the brother of Ricker's as a domestic. Ricker was quite intimate with her until he learned that she was the person who was tried for the murder of Dr. Baker. She is dark complexed, of medium height, and weighs about one hundred pounds. Ricker made a statement of the circumstances of the tragedy before his death which was substantially as follows: He had kept company with her since February last, but of last had not been so attentive as formerly. She frequently followed him on the street and seemed anxious to renew their intimacy. She invited him to visit her on the night of the fatal shooting, and she was with him two hours at her room, on the third floor of No. 88 Merrimack street. The door was locked and there was no light in the room, for the reason, as she said, that there was no kerosene for her lamps. She went to the sink apparently for a drink of water, and returned and stood partially against the door to keep him from going out, and facing him, she fired the pistol when only a foot distant. He did not see pistol till the moment she fired. There was no scuffle and no angry words. After the shoots were fired he held her hands to prevent a second discharge of the pistol, and as soon as his cries brought help, he went to the doctor's office and then to his lodgings where he died Saturday afternoon.

"LOVELY WOMAN" - MISS LUCY MANK SHOOTS TWO OF HER LOVERS
LOWELL, Mass., December 19th. - The Supreme Judicial Court, which assembled this this city to-day, has on its hands the trial for murder of a most remarkable and dangerous woman, one who has already been tried and acquitted of the charge of killing one lover, and is now to answer to the charge of murdering a second, the green-eyed monster being the alleged provocation in both instances. The woman's name is variously given a Lulu Martin, Lucy A. Mink and Lucy Mank, and the first murder with which she was charged was committed some three or four years ago in Warren, Maine. The victim was a Dr. Baker, who met his death from a pistol shot in this woman's house, she at the time being generally supposed to be the Doctor's mistress. She was promptly arrested at the time, and a few months later was placed on trial for causing the Doctor's death. The examination lasted several days, and the proceedings were watched with thrilling interest by the whole community, the prevailing opinion being that she was guilty. The Government failed to make out a case, however, and the woman was accordingly acquitted. Nothing more was heard by the public of this woman until a few months since, when she turned up in this city as the defendant and heroine in the murder of another lover, named Charles S. Ricker, last August, for this crime she has just been placed on trial. On the day of th tragedy the woman wrote a note to her victim, asking him to see her in her room in the evening. On the same day she went to a gunshop here in Lowell, and had a revolver cleaned and some new cartridges supplied, and on the same evening a pistol shot was heard in her room, and when the other occupants of the house went to investigate the cause, they found that her lover had been fatally shot. Her friends at the time set up the theory of accident, claiming that she was actuated by jealousy of another woman, and having failed in an attempt at reconciliation she attempted to shoot herself and that her fried, in preventing suicide, was himself accidentally shot by a misdirection of the weapon. William B. Gale, of Waltham, who was assigned as counsel for the alleged murderess, was quite taken back when he went to see her a few day since in relation to matters her defense. She politely but coolly told him that she had not sent for him, and she wanted no lawyer to intercede for her. She furthermore said that if at the trial he assumed to act for her she would tell the judge and jury that had acted without her authority and in opposition to her wishes. She positively refused to relate any incident of the tragedy, choosing to keep her own confidence, on the ground that she did not need Mr. Gale's services or the assistance of any one else. She said she made no objection to him personally, but did not want to talk to him as a lawyer, and during the entire interview was cool and courteous. When brought into court this morning the condition of affairs was explained. and the wheels of justice are temporarily blocked in consequence. The woman is by no means insane, and the motive for her singular conduct is a mystery. The presiding Judge and counsel on both sides agreed to a delay, and the fair murderess was remanded to jail pending a decision how to proceed. The case is attracting considerable attention from the fact that the defendant's antecedents are a mystery, and the two men whom she is reputed to have murdered were prominent in their respective communities.

The trial of Lucy Ann Mink of killing Charles Ricker, at Lowell, Mass., in August, 1875, closed last Thursday, with a verdict of manslaughter. The verdict is something of a surprise, for the evidence seemed to show that the shooting was either deliberate murder or pure accident. She had been very intimate with Ricker, and was engaged to be married to him, but he had gradually deserted her for other women, and had thus made her madly jealous. On the night of the shooting they had an interview in her room of a stormy character, and at the close a shot was fired, and Ricker fell mortally wounded. The defense claimed that the shooting was accidental; that Miss Mink had bought the pistol for the purpose of committing suicide, and that when she attempted to do so Ricker tied to take the weapon away, when it was discharged. Ricker, however, in his dying statement declared the woman intended to kill him, and it looks as if the jury made up a compromise verdict.

The immediate cause of his death was apoplexy. Mr. Baker first came to Topeka twenty-five years ago and has been in business her continuously until his recent sickness. He was a man possessed of the noblest traits.

George C. Baker, Sr., was sent to his father's old home in Vermont, and for a time lived with an aunt in that state, attending school in the meantime. He attended a private school and afterwards a theological seminary at Fairfax, where he took a classical course. At the age of fifteen he started out for himself. It was his desire to come to the Texas frontier, but his mother objected to that, and he consequently embarked on a Mississippi River boat, proceeding up the stream to St. Anthony's Falls, where the present city of Minneapolis stands. He got off the boat there without a cent of money, and found the townsite of Minneapolis just being platted, and lots were offered him at almost his own figure. His first work was with a logging company, and in its employ he went three hundred miles north of Minneapolis and one hundred and fifty miles north of the utmost boundary of civilization among the Chippewa Indians. He remained there for eighteen months, on the Red River of the north, and afterwards returned to St. Claire county, Illinois, where he made a contract to manage a farm for one year. In a short time the Civil war broke out, and, as his sympathies were all with the south, he obtained a release from his contract and proceeded by boat to New Orleans, and thence home, where he arrived after an absence of six years...
On January 10, 1862, Mr. Baker married Miss Mary Staples. Then, in April, 1862, he enlisted in Captain Sullivan's Company E, Willis' Battalion and Wall's Legion, a cavalry organization. The Legion crossed the Mississippi River at Vicksburg and joined the Tennessee Army under Van Dorn. After the death of that commander, it became a part of Forrest's famous cavalry. In the army of that intrepid cavalryman Mr. Baker was in every foray, skirmish and battle engaged in by the troopers of Forrest until the end of the war... Mr. Baker also fought at Moscow, Tennessee, and was a member of the cavalry which did guard and picket duty at the siege of Vicksburg... On taking up civil pursuits, Mr. Baker became a farmer and stock raiser, and arrived home in April, 1865, at which time he first saw his son, then three years old. His wife died the following January. After that he continued his farming and boarded his child and in a few years began getting ahead in the world financially. He bought, largely on credit, fourteen hundred acres of land on the Brazos River, two miles above Rosenberg, and his industry and thrift enabled him to pay for this and improve it into a fine plantation. In 1870 Mr. Baker married Miss Ellen McGraw of Louisiana. The four children born of their marriage were: John H. of Waco; Judge George C. of Richmond, a former county judge of Fort Bend county; Mrs. Lydia A. Hirsch of Houston, and Mrs. Eva A. Moers of Rosenberg. The first son of Mr. Baker, by his first wife, is W. C. Baker, whose home is now in Rosenberg. After a married companionship of nearly twenty years the second wife died, and Mr. Baker later married a widow lady, Mrs. Lorena Boone, whose maiden name was Darst. No children were born to this marriage. Mrs. Baker, the third wife, lived with Mr. Baker for eighteen years, until her death. Since then Mr. Baker has resided partly alone and partly with his daughter in Rosenberg.

The death of George C. Baker, Sr., one of the oldest residents of this section of Texas , occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.A. Moers, in Rosenberg last Tuesday nigh at 9:45, at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 5 days. Death came as the result of an attack of acute indigestion, the decedent being sick only about fifteen minutes. The funeral services were held from the residence of Mrs. Moers on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and interment was made in the Masonic Cemetery at Richmond. "Uncle George" Baker, as he was known by hundreds of friends throughout this and surrounding counties, was an old time resident of Rosenberg. He was a Confederate veteran and one of the county's most highly respected citizens. He was a member of the Rosenberg Masonic Lodge, and hononary member of Hood's Brigrade and a member of the Dick Dowling Camp., U.C.V., of Houston. The funeral services were in charge of the Masonic body. Surviving Mr. Baker are five children. Mrs. Arthur Hirsch of Houston, Mrs. C.A. Moers of Rosenberg, W.C. Baker of Rosenberg, G.C. Baker, Jr. of Richmond and J.H. Baker of San Antonio. One of the largest crowds that ever attended a funeral service in this county was present to pay their last sad respects to this venerable gentleman, and the News-Herald joins with the host of friend in extending the hand of condolence to the bereaved ones.

My brother Andrus was purely of the Andrus type. At his zenith standing much more than six feet, and weighing over 200 pounds, not fleshy, but a pattern of physical development he surely had a figure to be proud of. As a boy at school, apt, always at the head of his class. I think he absorbed his books easier than any of the family. In temper aggressive, to the extent that he would fight his teacher when punished. He was the only penman in the family, he wrote equally well with either the right or the left hand. He was a natural salesman, always on the alert, saving, thrifty. At 20 he entered business with his brother Henry in Ossian. He was not a natural farmer, and had he continued on a farm, could not have made a great success. Had he been an accountant, he would have been a whirlwind. In the store he was a model, and nothing in the business escaped his notice. At the time of his marriage at 26 he was without doubt the most prosperous man of his age, in the county in which he was living. After disposing of the business in 1886 he looked elsewhere for a favorable location for wholesale trade, and finally settled upon Sioux City as such a point. Here he entered into the wholesale hardware trade with a partner by name Bissell, under the firm name Baker & Bissell. The business seemed to prosper until the panic of 1893, when the town, which had every value inflated to the bursting point, crumbled, and with it his business became involved. From this failure he never recovered.

Mrs. Alice Gregory, daughter of George W. and Sally Woodruff Baker, was born at Crown Point, New York, September 27, 1860, and died at the E.L. Clegg home at Fayette, Iowa on July 20, 1938, at the age of seventy-seven years, nine months and twenty-three days. Mrs. Gregory came of English stock that came to America in the early Colonial period. In the "History of the Baker Family" by Albert Clark Baker, we read that William Baker and Johanna Welch were marred in Old England in 1590, and that their son, William, and his family came to America and settled in Concord Mass. in 166. This is the beginning of the Baker history in America. "The coat of arms would lead one to place them as agriculturists in England, but like all that came to this country at that time, they learned at trade. Many of the Bakers were masons and shoemakers, some farmers, and some business men." Settling at Concord and remaining there for some generations, they certainly had a part in the early days of our country and their share in the responsibilities of the Revolutionary War. William, the fifth generation, was the son-in-law of Major Daniel Fletcher, and no doubt served in the army. The genealogy of Mrs. Gregory is given as follows: "Alice Leonora Baker 8 of George W. 7 of William 6 of William 5 of William 4 of Joseph 3 of William 2 of William 1, born Sept. 27, 1660." This makes her the eighth generation since the landing of the Bakers at Concord. When but a young girl of five, her parents moved to Iowa locating at Farmersburg in Clayton County. Two years later the family moved to a farm five and a half miles south east of Fayette Iowa. Here she grew to womanhood. Her father died when she was twelve. From that time she and her brother Frederick helped the mother farm the homestead until she went to learn dress-making in Fayette. She was continually engaged as dressmaker from that time until her marriage to William G. Gregory on February 19, 1894. After her marriage she and her husband settled on a farm two and a half miles east of Oelwein. In March 1900 they moved to Oelwein where she had since resided ever since. Since the death of her husband on December 5, 1913, she has been with her son Carl. An established custom with her was an annual visit of a few weeks with her brother, Frederick, and his sons and daughters near Fayette. On July 1 of this year she again went for her usual visit, which she always enjoyed very much, for it was a time with old friends and relatives. On Wednesday evening of this week her son Carl and family drove to the E.L. Clegg home where her mother was staying. They found her refreshed and happy. That evening she played with her grandson, who was always in her thoughts and her delight. As the family left she remarked that she would be home Saturday. That same night she became ill at about 10:30 o'clock. Carl was called at once and she passed to her reward at 11:55 p.m. She was a devoted member of the W.R.C. for over thirty years, but her greatest devotion was her home and her loved ones. She leaves to mourn her passing and revere her memory her son Carl, his wife, and their little son John Carl, with whom she has made her home; one step-son, Guy C. Gregory and daughter, Isabelle; a step-daughter, Mrs W.J. Davis and her daughters, Mrs. Merill Burke of San Francisco and Mrs. Blanch Storms of Oelwein; one brother, Frederick Baker of Fayette and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Hintz Funeral Home on Saturday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m. in charge of Rev. L.W. Hauter. Mrs. C.O. Olson and Mrs. C.B. RITES FOR MRS. HART TOMORROW AFTERNOON
Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte Hart, 67, 926 Main street, who died unexpectedly Tuesday in St. Francis' hospital, will be conducted at her home tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Mrs. Hart had been actively identified with local fraternal circles for some times. The Rev. C. Victor Brown, Vassar college, and R. Philip Allen Swartz, minister of the First Congregational church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Salt Point cemetery under the direction of the Allen Funeral home. Born in Athol, Mass., Mrs. Hart was the daughter of the late Silas and Henrietta LaDue Baker. She had been a resident of this city and vicinity for a number of years. Mrs. Hart, who was the widow of William Baker who died some time ago, is survived by her daughter, Bernice Louise Hart; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Woodcock and Mrs Florence Lewis, Winthrop, Mass., Ida Baker, Washington, and Mrs. Mary Cockran, Wicherton, Mass., and three brothers, Leonard Baker, Washington and Webster and Frank Baker, Athol, Mass. In addition to being a member of the First Congregational church, Mrs. Hart was a member of Betsy Ross council, Sons and Daughters of Liberty, Sunshine council, Daughters of America and of Shekomeko chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Pleasant Valley.

Several Weeks' Illness Results in Despondency; End in Death.
Rock Island, Sept. 25. - After an illness of several weeks, in which he had become despondent, Howard G. Baker, candy jobber, took his own life yesterday afternoon, by hanging in the basement of his residence, 1234 Glenhurst court. While he apparently was in good spirit about 3 yesterday afternoon Mrs. Baker left home. She went to meet her daughter, Mrs. Louis P. German, 1633 14 1/2 street. Mr. German went to the Baker residence about 5 with an automobile to convey Mr. Baker also to their home. He found the doors locked and his calls brought no response. He made inquiry in the neighborhood, but learned nothing. He went and told Mrs. Baker and together they returned to the Baker home, where the tragedy was revealed.
Native of Hampton.
Mr. Baker was 55 years of age and had been a resident of Rock Island thirty years. He was born in Hampton, Aug. 3, 1865. There he was associated with his father, L.F. Baker in the general store in his young manhood. His marriage to Mary E. Greenwell took place in Rock Island July 1, 1888. for seventeen years he was a salesman for the N.K. Fairbank Soap company. During the last few years he was a candy salesman, and since the first of the years he had headed the Baker, Brower and German firm, candy jobbers. Surviving him are the widow and two daughters, Mrs. Dwight S. Clark of Chicago, and Mrs. German of Rock Island. A sister, Mrs. J.L. Wells, resides in Chicago, and a brother, S.S. Baker, lives in Reynolds. Funeral services will be held in the residence at 3:30 Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Fred J. Rolf. Interment will be in Chippiannock cemetery.

HAMPTON, Feb. 7. - The reaper death with its sickle keen has again invaded our midst and plucked one of our fairest flowers. This time in the home of L.F. Baker, taking from it the one who was the light of the home and the comfort of an aged father - Marion E. Baker. The deceased succumbed to consumption yesterday. She was born in Hampton Sept. 15, 1868. All that medical skill could do was done, but without avail. Last winter her father went south with her to Florida, where she derived some benefit, but she longed for her old home and associates, and came back home last May. Her health gradually failed, so the doctors advised a trip to the mountains. She, accompanied by her father, went to Colorado last August, but the relief experienced was only temporary, and with sorrowful hearts the father and daughter returned to their home here last November, since which time she had failed rapidly. The funeral will be held at the Congregational church, of which she was a member, Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. A. Harper, assisted by Rev. J.A. Alford, officiating.

HAMPTON, Feb. 10 - With a multitude of loving friends in attendance and surrounded by the great abundance of beautiful flowers, all that was motal of Marion E. Baker was laid away to await the morning of the resurrection. The funeral services were held yesterday at 10 a.m. at the Congregational church, Rev. A. Harper, of Port Byron, officiating. The relatives of the deceased who mourn her departure and who were present at the funeral were her father, L.F. Baker; her sister, Mrs. J.L. Wells, of Chicago, and her brothers, Howard G. and Silas S. Baker, of this place, and her uncle, E.A. Lynde, of Buffalo, Iowa, and niece, Mrs. Ed Strobehn, of Davenport. The pallbearers were selected from amoong the intimate friends of the deceased and were: Messrs. Morris S. Heagy, Carroll Vincent, O.J. Guckert, C.E. Sikes, W.L. Black and O.J. Anderson. When the deceased was 18 years of age her mother died leaving her in charge of the home, where she remained until her health failed, excepting about two years in which she was engaged in teaching school in this township. She was very fond of company, and loved children and had a remarkable faculty of gaining their love and confidence, and had great success as a teacher. She was very ambitious in anything she undertook, and always went at matters in a systematic way, which no doubt was the secret of her success. Jan. 13, 1895, she united with the Congregational church at this place and was a faithful member, and at the time of her death was 27 years, 4 months and 22 days old. She was greatly loved by all who formed her acquaintance and many were the tears that were shed in sympathy with the aged father and family at her early demise. The interment was made in the family lot of the Hampton cemetery.

Reynolds-Silas Sawyer Baker, 73, died yesterday morning at his home in Reynolds. Death was due to a heart ailment. He was born Nov. 17, 1869, in Hampton, a son of Leonard F. and Milla W. Baker. He attended Hampton schools and Port Byron academy, and married Miss Lily Sims Biggs in Moline, Nov. 17, 1898. They moved to Reynolds in 1910. Mr. Baker was engaged in the grocery business until 1937 when he retired. He had been in the grocery business with his father and brother in Hampton before coming to Reynolds. Mr. Baker was a member of the Reynolds Methodist church and of the Hampton Old Timers club which he formerly served as secretary. Surviving are the widow; a son Leonard, at home; a daughter, Mrs. John Gauley, Reynolds; two grandsons, Clyde Gauley in the navy at New York, and Edwin, in high school. He was preceded in death by two daughters, four sisters and a brother, and was the last member of the L. F. Baker family of Hampton. Funeral services will be at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the home and at 2 o'clock in Reynolds Methodist church. The Rev. J. C. Gearhart will officiate and burial will be in Hampton cemetery.

Friends of W.C. Baker of this city were shocked and deeply grieved to learn of his death. Mr. Baker was found dead in his garage Tuesday morning and it is believed that he passed away some time during Sunday. He had been in ill health and despondent for some time. Mr. Baker was born in Fort Bend county October 16, 1862. He lived in the county all of his life. He was the eldest son of the late G.C. Baker, Sr. and Mary Staples Baker, who came to Texas from Homer, Louisiana in 1859. Mr. Baker married Miss Lula Hagan, December 12, 1898, and they made their home in Rosenberg for many years. She preceded Mr. Baker in death by about ten years. Deceased is survived by one son Clarence Baker or Richmond; one brother, Judge G.C. Baker, Jr., of Richmond; tow sister, Mrs. C.A. Moers and Mrs. Arthur Hirsch, both of Houston and his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clarence Baker. Funeral services were held in the Morton Cemetery in Richmond, Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Rev. B.D. Clark, pastor of the First Christian church of Rosenberg, conducted the services assisted by Rev. J. Vernon Wheeless pastor of the First Baptist church of Rosenberg. A large concourse of friends from all over the country were present to pay their final tribute to a highly esteemed pioneer. Interment was made by the grave of his wife in Morton Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Louis Cumings, Jr., R.A. Hagan, E. Zwahr, Tom Booth, M. Podlipny and G.G. Roane. The Foerster Funeral Home of Rosenberg had charge of funeral arrangements. Sympathy of the community is extended the bereaved loved ones.

Services for Retired Commission Merchant Held at Fort Smith
Funeral services for Allen H. Baker, broker, were held Wednesday in Fort Smith, Ark. Mr. Baker, for 20 years a member of the Merchants' Exchange, died Saturday in St. John's Hospital of a liver complaint. He was 56 years old. Mr. Baker came to St. Louis from Texas. He was head of hte branch of the Federal Truck company here for years and president of the Allen Baker Commission Co., which he founded. He retired from business about three years ago. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Marie McCloud Baker, a son William A. Baker, and by Mrs. Wilson Benoist, a daughter.

He soon after entered the National Bank of Decorah. Here he has been the moving spirit for nearly twenty years. He is a man much respected in his town, having been mayor and held other positions of trust in the place.

As assistant cashier of the National Bank of Decorah, William F. Baker occupies an important position in the financial interests of that city; but he has found time to interest himself in other matters of equal importance, having served for a number of years with conspicuous ability as councilman and also allying himself with others in the interest of better education. Born in Fayette County, Iowa, December 17, 1871, he is a son of F. H. and Cornelia (Davis) Baker, the father a native of New York and the mother of Maine. F. H. Baker came to this county with his parents in 1857, and after having attained maturity crossed the line into Fayette County and there engaged in farming until 1892, when he retired with an ample competence and removed to Decorah, where he still resides at the age of sixty-nine years. The mother has attained the same age. William F. Baker acquired his early education in the public schools of Winneshiek County and subsequently attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette, from which institution he graduated with the class of 1893. In 1897 he accepted a position in the National Bank of Decorah, with which bank he has remained ever since, having filled the position of assistant cashier for the past ten years. Able, conscientious and industrious, the labors of Mr. Baker have played no small part in the development of trade connections of this institution and his worth has been frequently recognized by his superior officers, while he is popular with the patrons of the bank, who esteem him and hold him and his opinions in high honor. As the years have passed Mr. Baker has extended his interests and has become a stockholder in various other banks. In October, 1898, Mr. Baker was married to Miss Clara F. Brown, a daughter of William and Isabelle (Porter) Brown, natives of Scott County. The father was an agriculturist all his life and at an early age settled in Cerro Gordo County, where he successfully engaged in farming operations until his death, which occurred in 1907. The mother preceded him in 1900. Mr. and Mrs. Baker are the parents of five children: Lilian, Dorothy, Lucile, Stanley and Carleton. Having always been deeply interested in the public welfare and taking part in the political issues of the day, Mr. Baker has served for nine years as councilman of his ward, and this remarkable record of continuous service obviates the need of further comment as to his ability and the confidence his constituents place in him. His political affiliations are with the Republican Party, but in local questions he acts independently, merely seeking to promote the best interests of the city. Fraternally he is a member of the Knights of Pythias, and his religious faith is that of the Congregational church, of which he has served as an officer for the past twelve years, giving evidence thereby of his deep interest in this organization and its allied societies. The cause of education has always been near his heart and his efforts along that line found recognition when he was chosen a member of the board of trustees of the Upper Iowa University at Fayette, in which connection he has done valuable work in the interests of that institution. The handsome family home of Mr. and Mrs. Baker is located on Ravine Street, Decorah, and there both extend warmhearted hospitality to their many friends. Ever watchful of his opportunities, Mr. Baker has never feared to venture where his honesty and integrity permitted him to take a further step, and the success which he has attained so far is attributable only to his own efforts, which are guided by industry, energy, ability and honesty.

Claude Baker Dies After Long Illness
Brick Dealer Succumbs in St. Paul
News was received of the death at 7 o'clock last night in St. Paul of Claude A. Baker, brick dealer, with offices in the Shops building. Mr. Baker, whose home was at 4010 Woodland avenue, was widely know in Des Moines. Accompanied by Mrs. Baker, he recently went to the university hospital at Iowa City for treatment, having been in poor health for more than a year. From Iowa City he went to St. Paul, where he was undergoing treatment at the time of his death. News of Mr. Baker's death was received by Mrs. J.B. Trenchard, 655 Forty-first street, his sister. Mrs. Baker, who was with her husband, will accompany the body back to Des Moines. With her is Roy M. Baker of Sioux City, a brother of her husband. Mr. Baker came to Des Moines from Chicago in 1909, and since then has been engaged in the builders' supply business. He was born in Sioux City forty-nine years ago, where his father for years was engaged in the hardware business, being one of the early settlers of that part of the state. Mrs. A.D. Baker, his mother, who survives him, make her home in Sioux City.

Funeral services for Claude A. Baker, widely known brick dealer, who died Thursday in St. Paul, will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock at Sioux City, the former home of Mr. Baker. ROLLIN G. BAKER
Rollin G. Baker, 90, formerly of the Heritage Nursing Center, died Thieday afternoon in Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for one day. He was the father of R. Karl Baker, president and general manager of local radio station WKTS. He was born May 9, 1880, in Ridgeway, Iowa, son of the late George and Estella Baker. He attended school there and also attended Iowa State College. Mr. Baker had owned and operated a general merchandise store in Ridgeway until 1945. On Jun 30, 1906, he married Miss Etta Steensland. She died in 1950. He Married Mrs. Myrtle Kendell in 1957. She died in 1970. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Ridgeway and Cresco Lodge, F. and A.M. Hr. Baker came to the Heritage Nursing home about 11 months ago. Survivors, in addition to the Sheboygan son, are three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and two sister, Miss Helen and Miss Ruth Baker, both of Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by a son, daughter, and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at Cresco, Iowa, Friday afternoon, Burial will be in the Ridgeway Cemetery. Local arrangements are being handled by the Ramm-Ziegler Funeral Home.

Dr. John C. Baker Ends 25 Years with Company
Dr. Baker received his doctor's degree from Columbia university after graduating from Upper Iowa university, from which institution he later received an honorary degree of doctor of science and of which school he is now a trustee. He was associated for some time with the New York Agricultural Experiment station. Since 1919 he has been director of research of Wallace & Tiernan and associated companies. In 1940, in recognition of his work in the field of cereal chemistry and his development of processes for the aging and maturing of flour, Dr. Baker was presented the "modern pioneer" award by the National Association of Manufacturers on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the American patent system. Beside his work in cereal chemistry, Dr. Baker has shared in the development of chlorine control apparatus for the sterilization of drinking water and similar public health uses and directed the work that culminated in the discovery of Azochloramid, an antiseptic extensively used in modern medicine and control of wound infections. He has more than 25 important patents to his credit.

One of the most shocking accidents and heart rending deaths that has ever occurred in this vicinity was the one which befell Elmer Baker, on Finn James farm, a few miles east of town, yesterday afternoon, ending in Elmer taking his own life. Mr. Baker and wife occupied one of the tenant houses on the James farm, and since Monday he had been engaged in digging a hold under a big rock, in order to bury it. He remarked to his wife, when he left the house about two o;clock yesterday afternoon, that he had a hold eight or nine feet deep almost directly under the stone, which appeared to be a big one. He was engaged in this dangerous work all alone, and when supper time came and he did not appear his wife expressed the fear to one of the hired men that something had happened to him. As time went on and it began to grow dark she became still more anxious and insisted that some one should go and see why he did not return, it being impossible for her to go on account of two small children. One of the hired men finally said he wound go up where Elmer was at work and see what the trouble was, if anything. On arriving at the scene he found that the rock, which weighed several ton, had moved form its place and in its fall had caught Elmer underneath it. He at once hastened back to the house and gave the alarm, and in a short time the whole neighborhood was aroused. It was impossible to roll the stone away, so it was found necessary to dig around and underneath the body in order to extricate it from the position in whit was found. Although the injured man seemed to be unconscious the workers were encouraged in their efforts to release him by the sound of his continued breathing. When at last he was taken from his living tomb, those engaged in the work of rescue, where horrified to discover that, in addition to his other apparent injuries, there was a great gash to his throat. Dr. Pattison was hastily summoned, and on arriving there he made an examination and found that Elmer's right leg was broken below the knee, that his right thigh was badly broken and crushed, where the rock had fallen on him, that the cords of the right arm were injured and torn somewhat from their fastenings., and that there was a gash five or six inches long across the throat, the windpipe being severed. The injured man only lived about 20 minutes after being taken out. Of course it well never be definitely known how all this occurred, nor just how long he laid there after accident took place, but the indications are that he lay for several hours with the great rock resting on the lower part of his body, and that after a time he had succeeded in getting his right arm out and, as he saw by the lengthening shadows that supper time had past and night was approaching, and no help came, and that he must die anyway, he had decided to end his intense sufferings with his own hand. So he had managed to get his knife out of his pocket, open the blade, which seems to have been a dull one, as it seems o have taken at least five or six strokes across the throat before the windpipe was severed. The event has caused great excitement in the neighborhood. The deceased was well known here. He leaves a wife and two small children. The funeral will take place tomorrow.

Eugene A. Baker, son of Geo. A. and Mary J. Baker, was born at Fayette, Iowa, July 19, 1866. He grew to manhood, working on the farm with his father. He was united in marriage with Miss Nora Powers, July 5th, 1894. After his marriage he lived for a time on farm with east of Oelwein, but for 16 years he has been employed as a laborer. He operated a dray for a time. For the last ten years he has been employed by Wm. Lingelbach. Five children were born into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Baker, three girls and two boys. One son died two years ago. The children left with the mother to mourn the father's death are Bertha, Ada, Alice and George. Besides the immediate family there are two sisters, Mrs. Amy Lincoln, of Oelwein and Mrs. Anna Trumbar, of Maxwell, Iowa, and the aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. George A. Baker of this city. After a severe illness of four weeks during which time Mr. Baker's life hung almost constantly in the balance. He passed away at 6:30 o'clock Monday evening, January 12, aged 47 years, 5 months and 23 days. He made a heroic and patient fight for his life. Physicians, trained nurse and home did all that could be done, but could not stay the last enemy. His illness was the outbreaking of a trouble resulting from typhoid fever from which he suffered three years ago. Mr Baker was well known in Oelwein. He was one of the first to join the fire company and has been in continuous membership since joining. The members of the fire company appreciated his faithfulness and during his sickness and since his death they haven been faithful in what ever minitrations might be given to him and in his behalf. He had many friends and all who were acquainted with him knew him as a jolly good matured unselfish and generous man. One friend said of him that "Gene was happy and kindhearted. He didn't have much; but whatever did have, he was welling to give to anyone in need." May his friends and dear ones in the midst of sorrow and need, look towards the never failing source, and infinite supply of our Heavenly Father. The limitations of this life are many but God makes abundant provision for our daily need, and opens up the way for our eternal hope. The last services were held from the M.E. church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., Rev. J.P. VanHorn conducting the services. The city fireman in in uniform attended the services and the body was followed to its last resting place the the relatives and the many friends.

Applicant is the most obnoxious person I know of in this district and country. Constantly expelled from one "Canton" to another for theft, drunkenness etc. It will become impossible for him to remain here much longer. He is penniless but of good family from Boston, Mass. His parents have nothing to do with him and only send him some $50.00 per month. He was expelled from France in 1915 for theft and he is unable to get to Italy from this country owing to the fact that he is wanted there. Applicant's political views I cannot control, as he is a morphine user and has the habit of talking so much in various public places that he is liable to get himself into trouble. Recently he told to all who cared to listen that he was an American Secret Service man and that information coupled with the fact that this country is investing with a good quantity of enemy subjects would naturally lead persons to believe that we had in our country disreputable person engaged in this work. I respectfully request that a passport be granted him for IMMEDIATE return and have his family send this office enough money to buy his ticket back to the United States.

Funeral services for Alfred Talbot Baker, 63, of 17 Hopkins road, Arlington, retired advertising man, will be held today at St. John;s Episcopal Church, Arlington, at 2:30 o'clock. He died Sunday. Born in Newport, R.I., he was a graduate of Noble and Greenough School and of Harvard College, class of 1902. Orange, Dec. 20 - Fred Baker, 70, died suddenly Friday night at his home at 72 Adams street, the result of heart disease with which he had been afflicted for some time. He was able, however, to work regularly. He passed away suddenly in the arms of his daughter, Miss Ethel Baker. Mr. Baker was born in Saugus, the son of Henry and Lucy (Dizer) Baker, and grew up there. When a young man he went to Reading, and from there to Springfield, where he lived for 25 years. He was employed at the National Needle company during that period for a number of years served as superintendent. For approximately 25 years he was leader and instructor of the Father Mathew Temperance society drum corps of that city. On August 12, 1885 he was married to Mary E. Lynch, daughter of Jame and Honora Lynch of Springfield. He came to Orange 20 years ago and had since been an inspector in the New Home Needle factory. He leaves a widow; two daughters ,Miss Ethel Baker of Orange and Miss Pearl Baker of West Haven, Ct. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 at Witty's funeral home.

Funeral and graveside services for Milla Margaret Egan, 82, of 503 Clifford Drive, Akron, Ohio, formerly of Moline, were held Monday in Rosehill Park. Mrs. Egan died Saturday at Akron City Hospital after a brief illness. She formerly was society editor in the Moline office of the Daily Times, a predecessor to the Quad-City Times, and worked on the state desk of the Times in Davenport. Milla Baker, Hampton, married Mr. German, who preceded her in death. She married Dr. M.E. Egan who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Egan resided in Lake Geneva, Wis., a number of years before moving to Akron. Survivors include a son, John H. German, Akron; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Taylorville, Ill., April 16. - Miss Alice Baker, 33, a teacher at the Taylorville high school for the last eight years and graduate of MacMurray College of Jacksonville, died at 6:40 a.m Tuesday at the hospital in Monmouth of injuries sustained in an auto accident a week ago Sunday. Miss Baker had gone to Davenport, Iowa to be at the bedside of her mother who was ill in a hospital there and was returning to Taylorville when the accident occurred. Her car and another collided head-on at the edge of Monmouth. She sustained a fracture of the skull and other injuries and never regained consciousness. Miss Baker had been teacher of girls' physical education at the high school here for eight years and was dean of girls. Her home was in Reynolds, Ill., near Rock Island. Surviving are her parents, a sister, Mrs. Golley and a brother, Leonard Baker, all of Reynolds, Ill. Miss Baker was a member of Lambda Society of MacMurray College.

Leonard W. Baker, 53, 1230 17th St., Rock Island, building contractor and representative for the Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Co,. died unexpectedly yesterday in the President Hotel in Kansas City, MO., where he was attending a regional meeting of the Illuminating Engineering Society. Services will be at 1:30 Thursday in Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Dr. William W. Bennett of the First Methodist Church will officiate, and burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born Jan. 31, 1912, in Reyolds, Ill., son of Silas and Marian Biggs Baker, and attended schools there. He was graduated from Rock Island High School and attended Augusta College. He married Margaret Kahlke Aug., 19, 1950, in Rock Island. He was employed by the utility firm for six years, and before that by the Herman Nelson Division, American Air Filter. He was a member of the Moose. Surviving are the widow and a sister, Mrs. Marian Gauley of Reynolds. His parents and a sister preceded him in death.

Clarence H. Baker, 43-year-old electrician was found shot dead at 6:45 a.m. Thursday in the garage of his home, 643 East Tenth. He as found by his wife. A .45-caliber revolver lay beside his body. Justice W.C. Ragan returned a verdict of suicide. Cruising Patrolman Hugh Barlow said Mr. Baker arose at 6 a.m., indicated he was going to his job as an electrical foreman at the new Sheffield Steel Mills on the Ship Channel. He told his wife not to get up. that he would eat breakfast at the restaurant en route. Patrolman Barlow said Mrs. Baker arose at 6:30 a.m. to go to work and found her husband's body in the garage. Mrs. Baker and other member s of his family said Mr. Baker had been working long hours and was in ill health. He had been shot one time in the left side of his head. In his pocket, Patrolman Barlow said, was found a not whic said: "Goodbye, all. Thanks." Fogle-West Funeral Home had charge of funeral arrangements. Houston Chronicle. The body was brought to Richmond, Saturday, for interment in the family lot in Morton cemetery. Clarence was a former Rosenberg boy and a member of one of the county's oldest and most highly esteemed families. His parents preceded him in death, he leaves to mourn his passing his wife; several uncles and an aunt.
